The battle between polyester and cotton continues for centuries but it’s time to make the right decision for your hotel. Polyester is a man-made synthetic fiber that originates from petroleum, coal, air, and water and is formed from a chemical reaction between an alcohol and acid. It is used in manufacturing clothes, industrial fabrics, recording tapes and more. On the other hand, cotton is a natural staple fiber which grows on bushes and the flowers last for five to seven days. It is extensively used in textile products including clothing, bedsheets, pillows and more. Here is your guide to make the right decision with your hotel textile supplies.

1. Cotton Lets Your Body Breathe

Cotton is a breathable fabric, with more moisture and heat resistance than other fabrics and prevents sweating of the body. It absorbs heat and moisture and allows the air to move freely through it to keep the body cool during summers. However, polyester is made from synthetic polymers and is temperature-absorbent nature, therefore it makes the body feel warm. It allows perspiration to build up instead of absorbing sweat and causes discomfort to the body. Although polyester bedding lasts longer than cotton bedding, cotton gives a pleasant experience to the guests and helps sleep better.

2. Cotton is Easier to Maintain

Cotton is easier to clean and can be hand-washed, laundered or dry-cleaned because of its versatility and durability. It can withstand high temperatures therefore, it can be boiled and sterilized. It can also be dried in a dryer or hung on a clothesline without damaging its texture and feel while the wrinkles can be removed easily with an iron. On the contrary, polyester is a synthetic therefore, it is heat-sensitive and exposure to high temperatures during washing, drying or ironing can cause the fabric to melt or deform. Stains on polyester fabrics are difficult to remove and they become yellow over time.

3. Cotton is Hypoallergenic

Cotton is hypoallergenic, bleach-free, pigment-free and pesticide-free and does not use any chemicals during the manufacturing process. Cotton does not contain any metals as well, therefore, chances of allergic reactions to chemicals and metals are reduced. You get hundreds of guests in your hotel with different skin types and may have various skin conditions and allergies. The hypoallergenic nature of cotton bedding ensures that hotel guests stay safe and healthy. However, Polyester is derived from petroleum and consists of various harmful substances which can cause allergic reactions. To be on the safe side, choose cotton bedding for your hotel.
